Branding for Makers

Brand marketing case study for local handmade artist, from strategy through execution of logo and branding style guide.

February 5, 2021 by Tara Head

Brand marketing for makers

Our approach to branding revolves around the client from start to finish. We start by assessing exact needs and wants of the brand, and then we work together to define the brand voice and ideal customer. We then take all of the knowledge and convert abstract concepts into a visual representation of the message. We submit designs, choose the one that delights the client most, and finalize the color palette. The end result is a marketing package that conveys the brand’s ideals to its target audience, exciting the viewer as much as it does us.

PROBLEM

Local jewelry designers & makers, Clara Mae Art needed a full branding suite to align marketing materials, social media accounts, and a shiny new website. As makers ourselves, we knew we were going to be a great fit.

PROCESS

Together, holed up in a local coffee shop, we identified two major colors that defined the brand, teal and purple. From there, we referenced the product and the playful appeal of the brand to inform font and icon choices.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Final logo features a bright and cheerful color palette and font, matching the brand identity
  • Achieved universal appeal with creative adaptation of desired elements such as paint droplets

Branding packages vary by client, for a handmade jewelry artist like Clara Mae, we wanted to make sure our package struck the right balance, to prove that a polished, cohesive brand statement doesn’t equal stuffy, boring messaging that blends in with the crowd.

Branding packages unify messaging so that no matter where you interact with your audience, they receive content that feels like it belongs together. For Clara Mae Art, that interaction occurs at local craft shows, their standing market stalls, and on their stunning new website. We needed to ensure that the color schemes, fonts utilized, and graphic elements seamlessly worked in multiple locations, without feeling forced.
